Death Match by Sam Morton

Death Match by Sam Morton

From Quake:

Kevin McKenzie is 14 years old, captain of the Stroudmore Middle School wrestling team, and an enthusiastic fan of professional television wrestling. He's also dying of cancer. He endures chemo and radiation and he struggles with the pain his condition inflicts on his family.

Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation ™, Kevin's teammates arrange a special surprise, but will it happen in time to save his dwindling spirit before the cancer takes its toll? Kevin accepts his fate, but his teammates, his family, and his hero cannot. Can their hopes, aspirations, and prayers change his fate in the face of a devastating disease?

When I read this story, my heart immediately went out to Kevin, and I took a quick liking to all of Morton's characters. His description of the unwavering friendship between Kevin and his teammates is heart-warming while Ric's support of Kevin is worthy of a smile to the face.

While this story deals with cancer, it also revolves around a strong feeling of hope - hope for Kevin to triumph in his battle with cancer. He writes about a difficult subject, but writes about it in such a way that hope seems to simply radiate from the pages - an inspirational story.

And, lastly, I have to comment that this story was definitely worth the time invested in it to read.

E-Book Week!

Hey everyone! Thought since it was E-Book week that this would be a great time to blog all about these electronic books!

One great aspect concerning these books is the convenience that they provide. They are easy to purchase, and then even easier to read once they are downloaded on your computer! Not to mention that besides the convenience of purchasing an E-Book, they are also priced much cheaper than regular print books. And I would say that is a plus in the pro column in favor of E-Books.

And then there's the variety of great stories - stories in every genre - available in E-Book format. I, myself, have found some of my favorite books to be available only as an E-Book. So that, alone, makes me happy that I read E-Books because then I wouldn't have been able to discover those magnificent books!

And I want to take a moment, while I'm on the subject of E-Books, to say that a new fellow Quake author - Iris Black - has a debut short story E-Book coming out soon from Quake
entitled Just One of the Guys. You can check out her blog at http://irisblack-author.blogspot.com/.

Thanks for stopping by!

Review of the Knight Before!

The Knight BeforeJ.R. Turner

From Quake:
“This night should be special--for family, but instead, Sara Stark is surrounded by danger at every turn. With Tropical Storm Allison bearing down on her home, Sara must face a blonde, blue-eyed snake worming her way into the Knight family. With Drake about to leave for London, she has only one shot at unmasking the deceiver, only one tube of Icy Hot and only one chance to save him--the night before.”

Before I begin, I have to make the comment that I read this book in one sitting. No breaks. No pauses. Just sat down and read the entire book.

Turner weaves this story magnificently from start to finish. Her combination of humor and drama are in perfect balance, making the story both an enjoyable and lovable read. Her comic scenes have the reader literally laughing out loud while her dramatic counterparts have him sitting on the edge of his seat waiting anxiously for the turn of the page to discover what Sara is up to.

This story was definitely one of the best reads that I have had in quite some time!
